Table Talk 7: Why is there no arts funders forum in Canadian philanthropy?

The Metcalf Foundation, based in Toronto, is hosting a conversation on the intersection of philanthropy, arts, and culture in Canada. Annually, Canadian foundations invest upwards of $80M in the arts and culture sectors; this represents one of the highest funding categories by issue in Canada. Surprisingly, given the size of this investment, no forum yet exists for Canadian philanthropic arts funders to convene to share insights, develop strategies, and benefit from networking and peer support. Metcalf is kicking off a national conversation to explore the potential to launch such a forum, with a goal to leverage our collective philanthropic work for greater results. The conversation will be hosted by Sandy Houston, Metcalf’s President and CEO, and Michael Trent, Metcalf’s Director of Performing Arts. This table talk is open to anybody who is currently, or considering, funding in Canada’s arts and culture sectors.
