Catherine Wallace was the 2016-2017 Atkinson Fellow in Public Policy, researching potential alternative sources of civic information and journalism   as the news industry shrinks. Among her findings were the important role of foundations in the U.S. in funding experiments in this field, and the great potential of universities to contribute to an informed society. Catherine is currently assistant managing editor of news at the Toronto Star. She has also worked at the Montreal Gazette and at the Globe and Mail. Her most recent jobs before the Atkinson fellowship were at the Gazette as managing editor, transforming the newsroom and protecting core values during downsizing; and then as executive producer of a daily iPad evening edition.
